Maxus T60 repeats at #1, Changan CX70 at #6, sales up 11% – Best Selling Cars Blog
The Changan CX70 helps the brand up to #5 in Chile this month.
37,887 new light vehicles hit Chilean roads in May, a 11% year-on-year increase leading to a year-to-date tally up 29.9% to 186,247. Notably, the May result is up 21.4% on pre-pandemic May 2019. Passenger Cars edge up 0.8% for the month to 9,492 units and are up 11.4% year-to-date to 42,763. SUVs gain 18.8% in May to 17,417 and 37.1% year-to-date to 82,579, pickup sales are up 7.5% this month to 6,782 and 47.2% YTD to 34,343 and vans gain 12.2% in May to 4,196 and 27.4% YTD to 17,019.
In the brands ranking, Toyota (+53.2%) surges ahead to take the lead for the first time since October 2017 with 9.5% share vs. just 6.7% year-to-date where it ranks 3rd. #1 last month, Chevrolet (-5.6%) is knocked down to #2 ahead of MG (+40.1%) advancing two spots to #3. Suzuki (+73.4%) and most impressively Changan (+125%) follow. For Changan, this 5th place is its best since last November (#4). Maxus (+83.9%) and Volkswagen (+69.8%) also vastly outpace the market whereas Chery (-15.5%) is in deep trouble this month and drops 7 ranks on April to #9. Below, notice Ram (+217.7%) up to #11, Dongfeng (+115.1%), JMC (+339.1%) and Fiat (168.6%) in great shape. Geely (+38700%) celebrates one year in market at #24. All-in-all, Chinese manufacturers are up 45.8% year-on-year to 33.3% share vs. 25.4% a year ago.
Looking at the models ranking, the Maxus T60 (+100.8%) repeats at #1 for its 2nd ever monthly win in Chile. In fact the Top 4 models all more than double their sales year-on-year, with the Suzuki Baleno (+120.3%), Chevrolet Tracker (+160.5%) and Toyota RAV4 (+162.4%) in tow. The Changan CX70 makes a remarkable appearance in 6th place overall, helping Changan to #5 in the brands ranking. Notice also the MG ZX (in fact the facelifted ZS) at #9, the Toyota Yaris at #11 and the Ram Van 700 City, a rebadged Fiat Fiorino, at #12.
